The area is primarily populated by families, so it has strong youth-oriented community programs and services. The Glebe is also home to Lansdowne Park and TD Place Stadium.

The Community
The Glebe is one of the most well-known areas in Ottawa. It’s beautiful and unique neighbourhoods are comparable to the ByWard Market but without the heavy foot traffic. Although it is close to downtown, residents have worked hard to create a strong sense of community. There are several community groups like The Glebe Community Association, The Glebe Annex Community Association, The Glebe Neighbourhood Activities Group, and The Glebe BIA. Mutchmor Public School, Corpus Christi Elementary School, Glebe Montessori, and Lady Evelyn Alternative School are available for children in kindergarten through grade six. For children in grades seven through twelve, there several options available as well, including Glashan Public School, Immaculata High School, and the Glebe Collegiate Institute. Carleton University is also located just outside of The Glebe for families with children who are starting post-secondary education.

Outdoor Recreation
Although The Glebe is located close to downtown, there is no shortage of outdoor activities available for residents. As most Ottawa residents know, the Rideau Canal is a great way to experience the beauty of nature all year long. You can skate right into downtown during the winter, and during the summer, the paths that run along the canal are great for walking and biking. There are also several parks located within the neighbourhood. Lansdowne Park is one of the most popular because of the variety of amenities available. There really is a little bit of everything, classic pub food, a variety of ethnic cuisines, fine dining, you name it, the Glebe has it. Earlings Variety, The Rowan, and Irene’s Pub are just a few of the local favourites, but if you mention The Glebe to anyone in Ottawa, they’ll tell you to stop by the world famous Kettleman’s Bakery. When it comes to grocery shopping, there is no shortage of large chains and small shops where you can get everything on your list. The Glebe has also become a hot spot for unique boutique style clothing shops.

Events & Attractions
When it comes to entertainment, there is always something to do for those living in The Glebe, and if by some rare chance you can’t find anything to do, the downtown core is less than a ten-minute drive away. You can catch the Redblacks, Ottawa’s CFL team, or the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees at TD place stadium for one of their home games. A large portion of the famous Ottawa Tulip Festival takes place in The Glebe’s Commissioners park. You can also enjoy all of the Winterlude festivities on the Rideau Canal each winter. One of the most popular community events is the annual Great Glebe Garage Sale, which is put on by residents living in The Glebe. Each year on the last Saturday of May, residents put items out for sale, and it attracts bargain hunters from all over. The participants then donate a portion of their proceeds towards a chosen charity.
