Even though it is one of the largest suburbs of Ottawa, it has some of the most affordable housing prices, which is one of the main benefits that encourage prospective home buyers to consider living in Kanata. In recent years, it has also become a home for Ottawa’s booming tech industry. Over 540 tech companies call Kanata home, and they’ve developed the area they inhabit into what has become known as the Kanata Technology Park. The park has been acknowledged as being a world leader in the global applications community. Many tech company employees live in the area as well, because it’s a convenient, tranquil place to spend their downtime and raise their families.

The Community
Although the community has a larger population than other surrounding suburbs, it spans a vast area, which means residents within the suburban pockets are extremely close and welcoming. It is made up of a diverse collection of empty nesters, families, and single working professionals. The community’s needs and well-being fall under the all-encompassing title of Western Ottawa, due to its proximity to Carp and Stittsville, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any community involvement. There are several community centres, committees, and recreation centres all designed to look out for the needs of Kanata residents including; Katimavik Community Centre, The Western Ottawa Community Resource Centre, and Glen Cairn Community Centre.

Education
When it comes to education, there are a ton of schools for families to choose from, and that’s usually one of the main benefits that draw them to living in Kanata. We won’t drone on by naming them all, we’ve highlighted a few of the more popular choices to help you start your search. For children in elementary school, St. Gregory Elementary School, Stephen Leacock Public School, and Erskine Johnston Public School are some of the more popular options, but there are several others including some catholic institutions as well. The highest-ranking high schools are Colonel By Secondary School, West Carleton Secondary School, and Holy Trinity Catholic High School. Don’t worry, there are several options for children who aren’t old enough for school yet too. Little Scholars Montessori, Rainbow Montessori School, and The Play Space are all held in high regard.

Outdoor Recreation
If you enjoy being active and spending time outdoors, then there are several benefits of living in Kanata that you’ll be able to take advantage of. They have their own golf club, sailing club, biking club, and much more. There are also several trails and outdoor spaces, including the South March highlands which are known for having the highest biodiversity levels of anywhere in Ottawa, with over 650 species in the area, there’s no shortage of wildlife to discover. The community is also known for having some excellent recreational centres, the most popular being the Kanata Recreation complex. It houses skating rinks, sports fields, a park, splash pads, and a toboggan hill, so you can get out and get active all year long. The Kanata Wave Pool is another hot spot where residents go to beat the heat and spend some time outdoors, and it features a two-storey water slide and some awesome waves. Shopping & Dining
Kanata isn’t particularly far from the downtown core, but one of the benefits residents love about living in Kanata is that they don’t have to go out of their way to enjoy a nice night out on the town or shop for their everyday necessities. You could visit a new restaurant almost every week, but some of Kanata’s residents’ favourites are Fratelli’s, Pure Kitchen, and Central Bierhaus. You’ll have no problem finding a grocery store to pick up your weekly groceries or even a hardware store for that matter, but when it comes to shopping for personal items, the Tanger Outlets is the place to go. This massive outlet mall has all of the latest fashion and accessories at affordable prices, and it could be right in your backyard.

Festivals, Events, & Celebrations
There is always a lot going on within Kanata, but if you’re a die-hard Senators fan, you’ll probably consider living near the Canadian Tire Center to be the greatest benefit of living in Kanata. Even if you aren’t the biggest hockey fan, the arena hosts several sporting events, and it’s where all the big musical artists play when they visit Ottawa, so there’s something for everyone. The Walter Baker Center also puts on a number of events for Kanata residents like fireworks displays and festivals, and it’s also known to be the home of one of the best tobogganing hills in Ottawa.
